Griffins playoff attendance down 50 percent

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Grand Rapids Griffins won their first home game of the conference semi-finals Wednesday night. Now they just need to win two more against the Toronto Marlies, but are asking for extra support from fans.

We talked to a few at the game. "This is the first time they've been in the playoffs in years, so we weren't going to miss it for anything," said Kristi Kodos.

"They've got a chance at going all the way, but you never know," said Joey Neiser.

But the fans coming to the next home games on Friday and Saturday are going to have to cheer a little louder than usual.

"Tonight's crowd, I'd say is around 3,000," said Time Gortsema, Vice President of Business Operations for the Griffins. Compare that to an average 7,800 toward the end of the regular season. "Once you get into your conference finals, and you get into your Calder Cup Finals, that's when you really ramp up and have much greater attendance."

Gilmore family comments on fall death at the B.O.B

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WZZM) - Grand Rapids Police continue to investigate the deadly fall that occured at the B.O.B. early Sunday morning.

Tuesday night, the Gilmore family, owners of the B.O.B., posted the following statement on the Facebook page for the B.O.B.:

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the staff of The B.O.B and The Gilmore Collection, our hearts and our prayers go out to all of the friends and family members of Kevin O'Brien and Zachary Bunting.

When we founded The B.O.B In 1995 we wanted to create something unique and fun and bring the community together in an urban setting. As we look back over the past 17 years, we have had the opportunity to create jobs for over 220 great staff who have actually had the chance to become friends with many of our patrons.

Friend of B.O.B. victim talks about fall

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Grand Rapids Police are confirming that alcohol was a factor in a man's deadly fall at the B.O.B. early Sunday morning.

"He's a nice person," says Quincy Pearson. "I can't say anything bad, I don't think he has an enemy in the world."

Pearson is still trying to accept the fact that his good friend, Kevin O'Brien, is gone. The 36-year old was taken off life support Monday evening. Pearson says the decision to donate Kevin's organs has given the O'Brien family some peace.

"That he was able to help, his life was taken, but he was able to help someone else's life," he says.  "I think that was a big influence in donating his organs."

Pearson says O'Brien and some friends went to "Eve," the nightclub on the top floor of the building, late Saturday night.

"To get up to Eve, you have to take the elevator or the back staircase, back staircase up," he says.

Steiner says 190 volunteers helped Feeding America West Michigan staff members and letter carriers collect, sort and ship the food to the pantry’s warehouse in Comstock Park.  The donations are expected to provide roughly 117,000 meals to the one in six people struggling with hunger in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

 Participating post offices include:
