Wake Up West Michigan: Arena District Hispanic Heritage

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Saturday's morning's greeting comes to you from the guests at the Arena District Hispanic Heritage event.

Group collecting signatures to recall Governor

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-Critics are one step closer to recalling Governor Snyder.

Members of the group Recall Rick Snyder Kent County stopped by the Fulton Street Farmers Market Saturday to collect signatures for their campaign. They need 850,000 signatures by August 1 to move forward with a special election recall, but the group hopes to collect 1.1 million signatures altogether.

A member of the recall effort says he voted for Governor Snyder, but changed his mid when the governor introduced his budget.

"What we feel, and a lot of us did vote for Rick Snyder, that it should not come off the backs of the poor... and we should not gut education," said Andrew Stoppels. "We need to build things up like the film industry. We need to keep young people here. And there needs to be shared sacrifice and it's not happening."

The Fulton Street Farmers Market has no association and was not involved in the independent petition drive.

Saturday night's performance may have been Seger's last. The singer recently told Rolling Stone that his career is winding down and he can't do this for much longer.
