Betty White hot ticket for LaughFest 2011

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)- Tickets for Betty White's program only at LaughFest sold out in 10 minutes this morning.

White is one of the main headliners for the event which benefits Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids.  It's part of Gilda's Club's 10th anniversary celebration. Tickets sold for $77.50 each.

Tickets still remain for the dinner program with Betty White. They cost $250.00 with $100 being tax deductible.

Tickets for the dinner and program, as well as all ticketed LaughFest events, can be purchased at ticketmaster.com (search LaughFest) or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased at the Van Andel Arena box office. Gilda's LaughFest opens March 10, 2011 and runs through March 20.

LaughFest volunteer opportunities available

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)- With just a couple of months until LaughFest the volunteers for the event got their first look at what to expect.  Gilda's Club Grand Rapids held an orientation meeting for the volunteers Tuesday night. 

About 150 of the 400 interested volunteers were there.  Organizers covered all aspects of the festival and told the volunteers what kinds of roles were available.

Festival Manager Rebecca Steketee said, "(We) have a variety of different types of opportunities available from working on family friendly events to working behind the scenes with some artists as well as on things like community showcases."

Two other orientations are planned for the LaughFest volunteers.  They are next Tuesday and Wednesday.

West Michigan Golf Show underway

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- The 23rd annual West Michigan Golf Show opensed Friday afternoon at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.

The Golf Show has enjoyed enormous success and growth in its more than two decades of giving Michigan golfers a cure for the winter blahs. About 150 vendors are on hand this weekend selling merchandise and travel packages. Guest speakers and programs are part of the schedule once again. The featured speaker is PGA of America's Teacher of the Year Todd Anderson on stage Friday night and again Saturday.

Thousands of people will attend this weekend looking for the latest and greatest trends in golf. "The show keeps up with the times in the industry," said show manager Carolyn Alt. "You can come every year because you have to keep up. Maybe you need some new equipment or you're thinking about going to a different golf course and it's such a great opportunity to learn about all the golf courses that are out there."

The Western Michigan Geneological Society's monthly meeting features a video conference with Marueen Taylor, The Photo Detective. An internationally known expert on photo identfication, she will share case studies on uncovering details and clues in 19th century family photographs. This free presentation begins at 1:30 p.m., Mar. 5th in the Ryerson Auditorium of the Grand Rapids Public Library. WMFVA's 4WALL Screening on Feb. 23rd

Sponsored by the West Michigan Film/Video Alliance, 4WALL is a venue for WMFVA members/independent filmmakers to screen their completed and works-in-progress for FREE at the Wealthy Theatre Koning Micro-Cinema. Constructive feedback from peers and public in attendance are offered to the filmmaker on request.

On Feb. 23rd, Rodger Bliss, owner of Image Audio Mastering with over 30 years experience as recording engineer/producer, composer, band member, and overall music lover, will present the short "Bullies on Vacation." He'll discuss location audio and audio-post of the film including an initial cut with dialog segments only and the challenges of getting from that initial cut to the final cut. da Vinci Surgical Robot at the GR Public Museum starting Feb. 15th

As part of the Topics in Health Care Lecture Series, the Grand Rapids Public Museum will display the da Vinci Surgical System, in conjunction with Saint Mary's Health Care, Spectrum Health and Intuitive Surgical. Inside the Meijer Theater on the 2nd floor, guests can operate the robot's four arms from a remote console just as surgeons do. Display hours are Feb. 15th - 18th (10-4 p.m), and Feb. 19th (10-12:30 p.m.).

Local physicians will speak about using the robot in various fields at 7 p.m. the 15th through 18th, including:
