UPDATE: Victim's girlfriend speaks about Grand Rapids homicide case

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)- Grand Rapids Police are still searching for the person who shot and killed a man on Grand Rapids' southwest side Friday night. Police say the shooting happened shortly after 8 o'clock near the corner of Division and elm street.

Saturday night, the victim's girlfriend spoke about the tragedy.

"Everyone called him Tio," said the victim's girlfriend, who chose to remain nameless, as she stood over a make-shift memorial near the scene where her loved one died.

"Tio" is a Spanish term for "Uncle."

She also said the victim's name was David, but would not give his last name.

She says deciding to come to the scene of the crime was extremely difficult.

"I knew this was something I wanted to do because I couldn't tell him that I loved him."

She's left wondering how this tragedy could have happened.

"I don't have any suspicions in my mind that this was something other than random."
