Grand Rapids MI-- Many skilled tradesmen and women gave up their lunch hour today to hold an information picket outside of AT&T office's around the city. Communication Workers of American Local 4034 along with labor from all around Michigan and four surrounding state's have been working in good-faith without a contract since midnight on April 8th. Union members walked outside of the Alpine Avenue garage, the downtown Michigan Bell Building at Fountian and Division and at the 36th St. garage near Eastern Ave. AT&T earned 32.5 Billion dollars last year up 1-point-1 billion from the pervious year or a healthy 3-point-6 percent increase. The 2012 first quarter earnings will be released next week Tuesday, April 24th.
AT&T spokesperson Marty Richter issued this statement Thursday: "We’re committed to working together with the union to bargain a contract that will allow us to continue to provide and protect high quality middle class careers for our employees."
