My Town: Mary Free Bed Fine Arts Exhibition returns

The Mary Free Bed Guild welcomes the public to the 32nd annual Fine Arts Exhibition.

This event showcases works by physically challenged Michigan artists, while promoting awareness and education. The Mary Free Bed Guild will purchase select artwork for permanent display in the hospital. Remaining pieces may be for sale, at the discretion of the artists.

This exhibition takes place at the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, located at 235 Wealthy Street SE in Grand Rapids, and is open through August 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I was a patient at Mary Free Bed in March of 1998. A car accident, where a driver went through a red light on 13 Mile Road and M-37 in Sparta, changed my life forever. I had a broken hip in four places and a brain injury that paralyzed my left side. Mary Free Bed therapists assisted me through my challenging journey. I went from a wheelchair to a walker, a cane and finally, I needed no assistance with walking in October 1998.  However, I live with brain injury paralysis. My entries (shadowbox with wall hanging and shadowbox with puppet pillows) and biography, along with all the artists in this exhibition will help to educate the public that a life can change within seconds, and with determination one can persevere.
