----------NEWS RELEASE-------

OAK BROOK, Ill. (Ace Hardware Corp.) – Whether in need of hardware, housewares or sporting goods, residents of Grand Rapids, Mich., know they can rely on Rylee’s Ace Hardware.

For offering these unique products, services and more, Ace Hardware Corporation has recognized Rylee’s Ace Hardware with a 2014 “Coolest Hardware Store” award. Of 4,850 locally-owned and operated Ace Hardware stores worldwide, Rylee’s Ace Hardware is one of just six stores honored with this year’s award.

“We are honored,” said Lori Terpstra, the third-generation owner who co-owns the store alongside husband Todd Terpstra. “There are a lot of cool Ace Hardware stores out there. For us to be chosen is an honor.”

Rylee’s Ace Hardware offers more than a great selection of hardware; this cool store sells niche products in housewares and sporting goods. Housewares goes past solely displaying pots and pans and turns kitchen supplies into an interactive experience. Customers learn how to cook, juice and grill during the store’s free demonstrations held each month. Rylee’s Ace Hardware offers a literal wide variety with a 28-foot-long case devoted to knives, comprised of seven four-foot sections, as well as hunting, fishing, and emergency preparedness supplies. Rylee’s Ace Hardware knows how to react in an emergency as the owners overinvest in emergency items to make sure they will meet the needs of their customers in a pinch. This devotion to their community means they’ve well-earned their slogan, “Rely on Rylee’s.”

Although Rylee’s Ace Hardware possesses attractive niches, the store truly prides itself on great hardware selection. The 30,000 sq. ft. store is sure to have whatever a customer needs for home maintenance or weekend chores.

“Our core is still a really dynamite hardware store with great inventory depth in all the basic categories,” Lori said. “We have the best fastener selection in west Michigan. We have a plumbing selection that is unrivaled and a plumbing staff to back it up. We are really balanced and deep in the hardware categories and developed great niches.”

Ever since 1946, Rylee’s Ace Hardware has remained on Michigan Street, although it’s moved locations three times. It knows being local is important, not just offering a wide range of products customers need at a good price, but by offering local goods, many made by small Michigan companies that offer items not found elsewhere. Take the products offered by Loon Hardwoods, which sells cutting boards in the shape of Michigan as well as a large selection of kitchen tools all in Michigan Cherry or Michigan Maple. After agreeing to stock their products, Rylee’s Ace Hardware soon became the small company’s No. 1 customer. Rylee’s Ace Hardware always looks for ways their customers can buy interesting Michigan-made products.

“Being a ‘Coolest Hardware Store’ isn’t just about having a unique building and products. It’s about meeting the community’s needs in a way that only a small business can, just as the team at Rylee’s Ace Hardware does every day,” said Kane Calamari, vice president of retail operations and new business at Ace Hardware Corporation. “Congratulations to Rylee’s Ace Hardware for their commitment to providing a consistently amazing – and cool – shopping experience for their customers and community.”

Earlier this week, local award recipients celebrated their recognition as a “Coolest Hardware Store” at Ace’s Platinum Conference in Las Vegas; a three-day retail symposium bringing together Ace’s top-performing store management from around the country.

Across the board, Ace Hardware stores are known for their excellent customer satisfaction and helpfulness. In 2014, the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Home Improvement Retailer Store Satisfaction StudySM again ranked Ace Hardware “Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Home Improvement Retail Stores, Eight Years in a Row.” For more information, please visit http://ourcompany.acehardware.com/news/pdfs/20140604.pdf.
