 "Beneath the Waves: History of Shipwrecks in the Great Lakes" Lecture

Saturday 11a.m. and 1:30pm   Grand Rapids Public Museum, 272 Pearl Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49504   Learn about specific Great Lakes martime disasters highlighted in the Museum's Great Lakes Shipwrecks exhibition with Bill Helmholdt in this special lecture. In "Beneath the Waves: History of Shipwrecks in the Great Lakes," Helmholdt will also discuss the model ships on display in the exhibit.

Following the lecture, join Helmholdt on a special tour of Great Lakes Shipwrecks: Storms and Stories.

Admission to the lecture is $2. The program will be held in the Meijer Theater.

Bill Helmholdt of Kentwood, Michigan will share the history of famous wrecks below the waves of the Great Lakes. Highlights of the lecture include: the history of the "Eastland" disaster of 1915, the carferry "Milwaukee," "Chicora," the "Edmund Fitzgerald" and more. Helmholdt, who created the ship models in the exhibition, will share fascinating detail about each of them.
