Criticized theatre troupe returns to the stage

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—A theatre troupe that faced criticism for male nudity in its last performance returns to the stage Thursday, Dec. 12.

Actors’ Theatre Grand Rapids will present “Venus In Fur” by David Ives at GRCC Spectrum Theatre, located at 160 Fountain St. NE.  The show will run  through December 21; all performances will begin at 8 p.m.

Actors’ Theatre says the play is based on a director’s desperate search to find a lead actress for his new adaptation of the classic 19th century erotic novel, “Venus in Furs”.  When Vanda takes the stage, the fight for dominance between actress and director, woman and man begins.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Now is your chance to share your views on marriage and family with Pope Francis himself.

In an unprecedented move, the pope is asking parishes and individuals to take a survey on divorce, same-sex marriage and parenting.  The results will be shared during a global meeting of Catholic bishops in October 2014.  The bishops will focus on the topic: “Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization”.

The Vatican questionnaire is available in English and Spanish on the Diocese of Grand Rapids’ website.  The deadline to respond is Dec. 13, 2013.

Bishop David Walkowiak and his staff plan to organize all the responses and send them off by the end of the year.
