West Michigan Auto Group Mourns the Passing of its Founder, Marion “Red” Betten

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Marion “Red” Betten.  Earlier this year Red was diagnosed with lung cancer.  After a successful surgery to remove the cancer, he developed complications.  He was surrounded by loving and devoted family when he went home to his Heavenly Father the afternoon of May 26, 2011.

Red was first and foremost a Christian and was unapologetic in applying his faith in Jesus Christ to his business enterprises.  His personal mission was to live his life in such a manner that the image of God would be evident in his life and that the love of Jesus would flow through him.  He would often share the word of God as part of his regular dealings with staff and business associates.

Red was an accomplished business man in the auto industry.  He and his family have been involved in serving automotive needs in West Michigan for nearly 60 years.  He opened his first dealership in the mid-60’s and has grown his collection of dealerships to offer seventeen brands from ten different manufacturers with stores in  Grand Rapids,  Muskegon, and Coopersville.

“Mr. Betten is a true patriarch in every sense of the word to not only his family but this entire organization” says Holly McGavin, Controller for Betten Imports.  “He offered sage advice, wisdom, and an acute understanding of the car business.  This is an incredible loss but his legacy will survive.  We owe that to him
