GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Innovators will be gathering in Grand Rapids tomorrow (May 12) at the Civic Theatre for a TEDx event.  TED stands for technology, entertainment and design.  TED’s annual global events draw thousands of people, who want to hear from some of the most innovative people around the world.  TEDx events are independently organized local events, which have the approval of TED.

TEDxGrandRapids will bring innovators from diverse fields, from all over the world, to share their personal stories of innovation with over 500 local participants at the Civic Theatre.  Organizers have lined up 16 speakers.  The event is sold out.

Not Your Average Speaker Series: East Meets West

"Economic gardeners" and urban pioneers from Michigan's two largest cities, Detroit and GR, on stage together at Wealthy Theatre, to talk about what inspires them, success stories and challenges, and common mis-perceptions about both cities. Doors open at 5:30p on Thursday, May 26 and the event is held 6p-9p at Wealthy Theatre 1130 Wealthy St. SE Grand Rapids.

"Not Your Average Speaker" is open to the public and the admission is free. There are consessions available for purchase.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 29, 2011 – Davenport University is proud to announce Academy and Emmy award-winning actress Helen Hunt as its new keynote speaker for the 2011 Excellence in Business Dinner Gala. The previously announced keynote speaker, Diane Keaton, is unfortunately unable to participate.  James P. Hackett, President and Chief Executive Officer of Steelcase, Inc., will be presented the 2011 Peter C. Cook Excellence in Business (EIB) Award at this year’s event.

"This evening is a celebration of business success and community service and it is an important way for us to raise funds for student scholarships," said Dr. Richard J. Pappas, President of Davenport University.

Grand Rapids Young Professionals (GRYP) will be hosting their annual "Get Involved Expo & Unwind" event at McFadden's Thursday, April 28th.

At this event, 25 area non-profit organizations will host exhibit tables so that our members can speak with representatives about their needs for volunteers, members, and leaders.  If you would like to give back to the Grand Rapids community but aren't sure what is available, the "Get Involved Expo" is a great place to start.

Learn about organizations such as: Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, Girl Scouts of Michigan, Feeding America West Michigan, Friends & Families of Cystic Fibrosis and many more!

This event is also the GRYP April Unwind, which means many area young professionals will be there networking, enjoying appetizers, drink specials, and being entered into a drawing for a McFaddens gift card.

mygrcitypoints.com is an innovative community engagement program that links individuals, organizations, local businesses and city government to encourage recycling, volunteering and community building.
