Grand Rapids, MI - On Friday, April 13, 2012, the boy’s lacrosse teams from Forest Hills Northern/Eastern and Grand Rapids Catholic Central will be working together on their 2nd annual “You Are Not Alone” event. This year proceeds from this event will benefit the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan education programs. The scrimmage will take place at 7:00 pm at Forest Hills Eastern High School stadium with games and raffles for all ages.

The teams chose to benefit the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan education programs because suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among adolescents in Kent County and the 3rd leading cause of death among adolescents nationally.  It is critical to include mental health education in our school curriculum and for students to know that they “Are Not Alone”.  The MHF is helping schools around the area do this through Live Laugh Love Educating Youth about Mental Health Program. Live Laugh Love educates students about mental illness and encourages them to exchange stereotypes for understanding, compassion, and acceptance. The program is also designed to reach out to students who may be struggling personally with mental illness, so they may overcome the stigma and get help.
