News Release:

The Sustainable Streets Task Force is asking City residents and business owners to help in setting a vision for the future of the community’s streets. Public meetings have been scheduled to gather input.

All meetings will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on the following dates:

Thursday, June 21 Harrison Park School, 1440 Davis Avenue NW

Monday, June 25 Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center,

2500 S. Division Ave.

Tuesday, June 26 Congress Elementary, 940 Baldwin Street SE

Attendees will be asked to name their favorite and their least favorite street—photos depicting why it’s your favorite or least favorite are encouraged. Discussions will focus on what impact these streets have on your neighborhoods, your businesses, and your ability to move about the City.

"Would you consider moving to a place with potholed and deteriorating streets? Would you consider building a business on a street that makes your business difficult to visit or deliver goods to whether you are walking, biking or driving?" said Task Force Member Chris Reader, "We need the community’s help in determining the future for our streets and how they want their community to be perceived."

The Task Force delivered a report on the condition of the City’s streets to the Grand Rapids City Commission last month, informing them that an alarming 61% of streets are currently in poor condition, and that 81% will be in poor condition within three years if action isn’t taken to provide additional investment for streets now.  #
