Diocese of GR Back to School Kickoff | Community Spirit
The 2012-2013 school-year for the Alliance of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids officially kicks off on Thursday, August 23 when more than 500 Catholic school educators, administrators and pastors will gather for the annual “Back to School” Kickoff.
Hosted by the diocesan Office of Catholic Schools, the “Back to School Kickoff” celebration will be held Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cathedral Square Center, 360 Division Ave. S. in Grand Rapids.
“This is an opportunity to gather our Catholic school educators in one place to start the year with a word of encouragement and to focus on the identity and mission of our Catholic schools,” said Mr. David Faber, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
The Kickoff is an occasion to celebrate Catholic education and the dedicated Catholic school pastors, faculty and staff serving throughout the 11-county diocese. The keynote speaker is Father Ronald Nuzzi, Senior Director of the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program and Editor of ACE Press at the University of Notre Dame. Father Nuzzi will speak at 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew.
“His words always provide just the right combination of inspiration, humor, and experience to renew our faculty’s sense of purpose and ministry as they return to the classroom,” said Faber.
Following Father Nuzzi’s presentation, Mass, with Bishop Hurley presiding, will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, 265 Sheldon Blvd. S.E. in Grand Rapids.
The 31 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids, including 27 elementary schools and four high schools, integrate faith into the academics and daily life of more than 6,000 students.
The diocese serves more than 178,000 Catholics in the 85 parishes located throughout West Michigan.
