Cooley Law School student wins award in regional competition

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Anna White, a student at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School’s Grand Rapids campus, was named Best Oral Advocate at a recent regional competition for the Constance Baker Motley Moot Court Competition in Constitutional Law.  White bested 43 other students from law schools throughout the country at the event, organized by the American Constitution Society and held in Los Angeles on March 11-13.

“Presenting an argument orally is the backbone of advocacy in the legal profession,” said Evelyn Tombers, associate professor at Cooley Law School and White’s coach for the competition. “Anna has raw talent that she’s molded into a skill recognized by the judges in Los Angeles.  Her success is the result of months of hard work, preparation and practice.”

G-Sync Walks Into A Bar (OUCH!)

G-Sync Walks Into A Bar (OUCH!)

After months of passing brightly colored smiles all over the city, Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids' new comedy event, LaughFest, is finally here.

If you've picked up a schedule or visited the LaughFest website, then you know already this event has far exceeded everyone's expectations, long before the first acts hit one of the many stages around town.

Those who might question why a non-profit known for cancer support would tackle comedy don't understand the message of Gilda Radner, much less heard of the too-many-to-list medical reports concerning the positive impact of laughter on our well being.

Gilda Radner burst on the scene in the '70s as one of the original cast members of the iconic late night comedy show, Saturday Night Live. The program featured the Not Ready For Prime Time Players performing in skits that often covered topics also not ready for prime time.

Whether you are a woman who prefers your bra to be adorned with sparkles or prefer it just plain taupe or prefer no bra at all -- it won’t matter on Monday, March 14 when both women and men pack the Crush cocktail lounge at The B.O.B. for the 2nd Annual Bra Auction Gala to support Gilda’s Club and its Grand Rapids’ community programming. “This is a fun, elegant event created to auction unique artist-designed bras to help Gilda’s Club,” says Bra Auction co-founder Kristiane Hubbard.

Why bras? “Well, bras are something very ‘close’ to women,” laughs Hubbard.
