2016 Secondary Schools International Women’s Day Essay Contest

The non-profit, Grand Rapids Sister Cities International is pleased to announce this Essay contest that is open to Grades 9 – 12 in the City of Grand Rapids.

The 1000 word, double space essay that the student will be creating is “A Special Woman Who Influenced Me”. The essay, about a special woman can be living or deceased, may or may not be someone that the student has met and must be in one of the countries represented by one of Grand Rapids Sister Cities.

The Deadline is January 30, 2016. Essay should be mailed to: GRSCI at 303 Monroe Ave. NW in Grand Rapids, MI 49503 - Attention: 2016 GRSCI International Women’s Contest.

The Heritage Hill Association will once again host their Annual Holiday Potluck & Celebration on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The celebration is at GRCC DeVos Campus located at 435 E. Fulton in Grand Rapids, MI.

Dinner served at 6:00pm; please bring a dish to pass.

It’s breakfast time again, Saturday, November 14th from 8 – 11am, at the Boat & Canoe Club in Grand Rapids, MI and what a great job the Women’s 356 Auxiliary does serving this up.

Menu for breakfast is: eggs, biscuits & gravy, sausage links, bacon, pancakes, along with coffee, milk and juice. All this for just $8.00.

The month of October is almost through but before it passes you have an opportunity to help struggling young families, diaper their little ones.

Drop off any size new diaper packages to any of the five participating YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids during regular business hours on Thursday, October 29 or Friday, October 30 to help make a difference for those in need.

Calder Plaza comes alive on October 17 from 4:00-8:00pm with this 2nd annual Zombie Beer event. Take time to dress like a real zombie for a costume contest with great prizes, enjoy games, free photo booth experience & live music. Tickets are only available on-line, so get yours today!

There will be craft beers, ciders & spirits from some of SW Michigan’s best craft beer producers, as well as local food vendors.

Friday, November 6, 2015 from 11am – 8pm and Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9am – 1pm is the Annual Taste of Greece at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. This group is known for their Souvlaki at the Festival of Arts and Yassou Greekfest.

There will be delicious food for dining in or take out all day long. A great menu of Greek Style Lasagna, Salad, Spinach Pie/pita, fresh baked breads and Greeks pastries will be available.

There will be pastries and imported gifts to purchase throughtout the day along with beer & wine available after 5pm.

The church is located at 330 Lakeskide Dr. NE in Grand Rapids, MI., across from Romence Gardens Greenhouse. A donation of $12 for the dinner is appreciated.
