There is NO Greater Joy In Giving...

There is NO Greater Joy In Giving...

Last night, I had the wonderful opportunity to help out at Kids Food Basket in Grand Rapids. I help out with many community walks and events, but I can honestly say, there is no greater joy than when I donate my time to help make brown bags for children to take home for dinner. There are over 30,000 children in Kent County living in poverty. To think that many of these children go home at night and are not fortunate enough to have one of these brown bags pains my heart.

As a helper last night my job was to put 6 cherry tomatoes in a zip lock bag for the children. Do you know how hard it was not to put 7 or 8?? 6 cherry tomatoes looked so empty in the snack bag. I overheard someone say that some children share a meal with another sibling who was not able to get a bag that day. That is only 3 tiny cherry tomatoes per child. My heart was aching to think of any child that has to live without the basics that I am so very fortunate to have.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Parents and loved ones unable to be at the bedside of premature and critically ill infants can now stay connected through the "My Baby View" program.

The program is a custom built software and video monitor system used in The Gerber Foundation Neonatal Center at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. The initial program was made possible by a nearly $25,000 grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Outstate Michigan.

"The average length of stay for our patients is 27 days," said Joan Rikli, director, critical care services, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
