Battle Creek Air Show and Balloon Festival July 1 - 5

Battle Creek will play host to the Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo team July 1-5, 2015. This is only 1 of 19 events during this time.

The Air Show will show the best of the best when civilian performers fill the sky July 3 – 5 with aerobatic maneuvers that make the fastest roll-a-coaster seem like a merry-go-round.

“Even more excitement has been added to this year’s Air Show,” stated Barbara Haluszka. “We are not only going to have pyro during the Night Air Show but during the actual Air Show itself,” she said. Spectators will love the explosions and the 750 ft. Wall of Fire!

Air Show at its best! Join us at the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival.

This Mexican Rice is very good

This Mexican Rice is very good

I found this recipe on the Food Network/Pioneer Woman a couple weeks ago, it sounded good and so I made it. I really thought it was very tasty. I did not have cayenne pepper but used red pepper flakes instead and it still turned out just great. I did find I used a little more chicken broth than the recipe called for. I will certainly make it again.

Opinion: It's my Point of view on St. Mary's Church

Opinion: It's my Point of view on St. Mary's Church

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI. and what a pretty church it is. Today there were several vases of pink roses, I’m guessing maybe from their May procession? When I looked around the church, I’m guessing there was maybe 50 people or less at 5 o’clock Mass. I thought how sad. It is very evident that the older people at Mass who do take part in helping Father Nolan are there because they want to be, very dedicated.

I belong to Holy Spirit Parish on the west side of Grand Rapids but every so often I get the urge to go to Mass at St. Mary’s; it kind of brings me back to reality, makes me remember my childhood parish in Northern Michigan.

Benefit for Gabriel's Journey to a Miracle

Benefit for Gabriel's Journey to a Miracle

Gabriel Isaac Dehen, born October 16, 2014 at Metro Hospital, came into this world fighting and has a long journey ahead of him and his parents, David & Christina Dehen.

Gabriel was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around one of his arms that was completely limp. After ineffective respiratory efforts, he was placed on oxygen but then doctors noticed unusual movement of his arms that appeared to be symptoms of seizure activity. He was then transferred to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital for the next 42 days.

Gabriel was diagnosed with Severe Epilepsy & Neuro-Degenerative Disease, meaning his brain cells were diminished from his brain as well as his brain stem. He is now on 3 different seizure medicines.

Both David and Christina never planned to have her off from work for so long; her job granted her 6 weeks paid and 6 weeks unpaid leave for baby bonding time. Since that time she is only able to work a few hours a week due to Gabriel’s needs and care.
