Winter Weather Driving Safety Tips

We may finally get the kind of winter weather we are used to in West Michigan. So, Kent County Deputy Ryan Roe, who is the Community Police Officer in the East Precinct, has some tips on keeping safer during what can be difficult weather to navigate on Michigan roads.

FROM THE DESK OF KENT COUNTY DEPUTY RYAN ROE

• DON’T USE YOUR CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING.
• Wear your seat belt and double check car seats and boosters.
• Don’t leave children responsible for securing themselves in the seat.
• Keep dry cloths in your vehicle.
• Emergency kit, including flashlights, water, blanket, snacks and flares.
• Take your time driving - that means SLOW DOWN, leave early or just be late.
• Have your car’s tires, battery, brakes, and wipers inspected by a certified mechanic.
• Keep enough gas in the tank to keep out moisture.
• If the weather is too dangerous to drive, stay where you are.
• If you’re involved in an accident, stay in your car.
