GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A former staff member at West Catholic High School and Catholic Central High School is being charged with criminal sexual conduct for an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Grand Rapids Police say the former employee is charged with one count of CSC first degree, which can be described as rape.

The Grand Rapids Diocese identified the former employee as Abigail Marie Simon. She was fired in late April after allegations surfaced about an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Police started investigating in late April and an arrest warrant was obtained this week. Simon was arrested Wednesday in Grand Blanc and is being transported back to Kent County Thursday.

Simon's arraignment had not yet been scheduled as of 1 p.m. Thursday.

The diocese is offering counseling for students who may want to talk about the situation.
