Ice storm has residents chiseling their way out

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- West Michigan residents are glazed over, wondering how to chip their way out of a large ice storm that hit the area. Nicholas Plinka put plans to drive to Detroit in park, because he can't even clear his car.

"It's crazy it's like an inch of ice you can't even scrape it off of your car."

Mother Nature offered up some unwanted tree trimming services across West Michigan. Pat Rademacker heard one come down, "I heard it this morning, but I honestly didn't think much of it, I just thought it was someone who fell on the ice."

Mike Geyer's birthday started with the gift of ice and a 'fireworks show' from his neighbor's power lines.

"There were a couple flashes of lightening or something and all the sudden a fire truck came down the street."

Ice and snow is causing branches to take down lines for tens of thousands of Consumer Energy customers, while crews work to fix the issues.

Another professional feeling the pain--delivery drivers-- doing their best to deliver some cheer.

Fletcher Clements says, "Taking it nice and slow, the roads are covered with slush and ice, 'how miserable is it?' "It's horrible out here."
