Grand Rapids Children's Museum holds birthday bash

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The Grand Rapids Children's Museum will mark its 17th anniversary Thursday with a big birthday bash.

"We have to celebrate. This is something we started last year- we want to have party with our friends," said Adrienne Brown, marketing and events manager for the museum. "We will celebrate our 17th anniversary of being here, playing here and having fun."

The beach theme party will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the museum, located at 11 Sheldon Avenue NE. Museum visitors will be greeted with a carnival-like atmosphere.

"We will be building sand castles [and] playing starfish, ring toss and sea shell matching. We will make paper plate jellyfish and eat snow-cones," said Brown. "This will be fun for all ages. Some of the activities are for ages 3 and up, but there will be things for smaller children as well."

Brown says the outdoor event is free for everyone; non-members are encouraged to take a moment to check out the museum.

"It would be great if people kept the fun going and came inside the museum afterwards," said Brown.

Sheldon will be closed during the event but Brown says there is plenty of parking nearby. For more information, visit the museum website.
