Student makes documentary about ArtPrize | News
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) A West Michigan high school student will debut a 45-minute documentary on Artprize Wednesday called "The ArtPrize Experience."
As the film plays out, it showcases the talents and hard work of four local artists and their experiences during the 19-day art competition.
Sam Klee, the creator of the documentary, says the film not only showcases four artists, but also the growing spotlight on art in West Michigan.
"Art is not limited by the medium, it's really enhanced by variety, so the artists that you'll see in this film, they're doing everything from paintings to Rubix Cube mosaics... and with each one, the public responded very well to each of them," says Klee.
Klee also made a short 10-minute film based on the documentary called "The ArtPrize Effect" which has already won awards at national film festivals.
He was able to make both films on a $1,000 budget.
Klee says that he learned a lot about art and film-making during the making of the documentary.
"The ArtPrize Experience" is debuting Wednesday, August 10th at 4pm at the Grand Rapids Film Festival on the campus of Western Michigan University. There will also be a screening at 6pm on Friday, August 12th.
Tickets are $5.
