Giant door at ArtPrize | News
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Oversized art is always an attention grabber and a piece at the Grand Rapids Public Museum is turning heads. It is a giant door entitled "Portal."
The 3-D exhibit is made of steel and stands 17-feet high and seven feet wide. It is the work of artist Christopher Weed, who also created the giant paper clips last year. The Colorado native says he never thought much about Michigan, but ArtPrize changed his opinion.
"I've fallen in love with Michigan. I think there is such a buzz about this place and just every corner you turn there's art. They support the arts in the best way and I think a lot of communities and municipalities could learn and follow what Michigan is doing or what Grand Rapids is doing, I should say, said Christopher Weed.
Weed says "Portal" is a metaphor of the doors that are opened in one's mind.
