Gymnastics on the Grand underway in Grand Rapids | News
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- It will be a weekend filled with twists and turns as over 1,000 gymnasts gather in Grand Rapids. It is all part of Gymnastics on the Grand. The three day event started Friday at DeVos Place with the girls' competition.
This is the second year for the event. Last year there were about 850 competitors. This year the competition grew to 1,300. Those who compete at the higher levels often spend up to 20 hours a week in the gym.
Gymnast Gessica Wiltgen with Grand Rapids Gymnastics says gymnastics gives her confidence. "I feel like, without it, I am a totally different person," says Wiltgen.
The event continues Saturday with the boys' and girls' competitions. Then on Sunday morning, there will be more girls' competition, followed by the event finals around noon.
