Family 'RACKs' strangers ahead of holiday

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Walking between parked vehicles outside a Grand Rapids store, the Pearson family randomly picks several vehicles out of the mix.

It may sound suspicious, but Saturday, the family left scratch-off lottery tickets, candy canes, and notes, all for strangers to find.

"We have a list of about 35 ideas, and we pick something to do that day, and we go 'RACK' somebody," said Stephanie Pearson.

"RACK" stands for "Random Acts of Christmas Kindness." Stephanie Pearson picked up the idea on the Internet. She decided to create a West Michigan version of the campaign for kindness, performing a daily deed with her family.

"You never know what kind of impact it will have on somebody else," said Tony Pearson.

Facebook page was created, quickly racking up likes and followers.

"In one week we've had 150 followers, so people go on there, post ideas, post photos, post thank you notes, and it's been a real awesome thing for the community,"  said Stephanie Pearson.

The Pearson family says the experience they get from giving is priceless, and teaches their children generosity and how to care for others.
