Grand Rapids considers 3-1-1 call center
News

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Calling the City of Grand Rapids could become easier. The city is considering the addition of a 3-1-1 Customer Service Directory.

The number would streamline finding a department. Right now there are about 200 phone numbers to different departments. City officials hope it would make it easier for residents to reach the right department by dialing 3-1-1.

The city would use 9-1-1 for emergencies, and 3-1-1- for all non emergencies.

Residents can use the number to pay a bill, ask for information, or report an issue. The calls would be tracked and monitored.

City officials are calculating the cost benefit to see if 3-1-1 is a good option.
