News

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A local restaurant is receiving national recognition for a dessert that features West Michigan ingredients.

Grove, at 919 Cherry Street in the East Hills district makes the Jennings Brothers' Red Cornmeal Financier.  On Monday, New York Magazine's "Grub Street" food news section named the small french-style cake as one of its "101 of America's Most Crazy-Awesome New Desserts."

The financier is served with fruit syrup made with Michigan cherries and red beets, locally roasted chestnuts, "Haarsma Farm's honeybutter, aside Palazzolo's vanilla malt gelato," according to a spokesman for the restaurant.

The magazine praised the restaurant's farm-to-table product, saying, "one of the most impressively locavore-leaning pastry programs we found was in Michigan's second most-populous city, of all places."

"Locavore" means someone who is interested in eating locally-produced food.
