GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan is set to speak at a church in Grand Rapids about self-sufficiency.
Farrakhan's speech Thursday at Fountain Street Church is entitled "Duty, Responsibility and the Necessity of Self-Sufficiency." The event is being sponsored by the Nation of Islam's Grand Rapids Study Group.
The talk is geared toward students, clergy, elected leaders, educators and the community.
The Chicago-based Nation of Islam has espoused black nationalism and self-reliance since it was founded in Detroit the 1930s, though in recent years it has made efforts to recruit other ethnic groups.
