GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Downtown Grand Rapids roadways are back open tonight, after hosting the largest 25K road race in the country.

A record 21,713 athletes took part in Saturday's Fifth Third River Bank Run.

The race director says a few athletes were taken to area hospitals with dehydration, but there were no serious problems during Saturday's event.

Janet Cherebon-Dowcom broke the women's record in the 25K with a time of 1:24:36.

The previous record of 1:24:43, set by Joan Benoit-Samuelsson, stood since 1986.

Nearly 7,000 men registered for the 25K race, which was won by Kenya's Robert Letting.

Letting finished with a time of 1:14:54.
