What's Happening Kid's Day & Cirque du Soleil

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WZZM) - It may be hard to believe, but we're almost halfway through 2012!  Let's see what's happening around west Michigan this weekend.

The Coopersville Farm Museum is inviting kids of all ages to experience live on the farm.

The museum boasts antique tractors and gadgets galore.

They also offer plenty of fun activities.

Today, they'll have a petting zoo with some local farm animals, and crafts with Miss Coopersville representatives.

Lee Ann Creager, Coopersville Farm Museum Director said, "Come experience rural life, you know, this is, you want to know what it's like to live in a small town, or a farm town, farm community, come spend a day with us and you'll feel at home before you leave."

Kid's Day is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum on Main street in Coopersville.

Admission is three dollars a person and kids three and under are free.

The world famous Cirque du Soleil has arrived in Grand Rapids.

So far, the show has traveled to 45 cities in the U.S. and they're booked through the summer of next year!

Gabriel Dube-Dupuis, Quidam General Stage Manager said, "In order to move this show the way we do, we  need to, we travel with 16 trucks from city to city."

Counting just costumes alone, they have more than 250 to pack up after every show.

Cirque du Soleil has many popular performances all over the world running simultaneously so I asked, what makes this one unique?

Dube-Dupuis said, "They're all very, very different.  The shows in Vegas are built to stay in Vegas, so your technical capacity is expanded because you are able to stay there for years and you build a theater.  A touring show is limited in that sense, but we compensate with our creative side.  Quidam is one of the signature jewels that made Cirque du Soleil the company that it is now.  So, you'll find a high mix of acrobatics, poetry, theatricality, dancing and a storyline as well."

Quidam is playing at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids through tomorrow.

Tickets are still available and range from $40-100.  Click here for more information.
