GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-The 2012 U.S. Open Table Tennis Championship is underway in Grand Rapids.
Two years ago, the competition pumped $600,000 into the city. This year's competition in DeVos Place involves competitors from all over the world.
Organizers say it's no accident the championship runs through to the Fourth of July.
"If people are going to come down here anyway to see fireworks, why not come down early and watch the table tennis tournament as well?" Explains Dell Sweeris, co-chair for the US Open Table Tennis Championships.
Tickets for the championship are available at the door and through Ticketmaster. The rates are $10 per a session or $25 to see all the sessions.
