The Transplant Games are in West Michigan | News

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Transplant Games are going on in Grand Rapids. The event was nearly canceled because of funding problems until a local man and area sponsors stepped in.

The Transplant Games honor organ donors and recipients. TJ Maciak received a kidney more than a decade ago. Last year when he heard the event was in trouble he found sponsors to make financial donations.

He says the event brings together organ recipients and its donors from all over the country, and in some cases the world.

Maciak says the event spreads the word of organ donation and reminds others of the impact it can make.
