New ambulance expands hospital's range into the U.P. | News
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Helen DeVos Children's Hospital has a new resource to help sick or injured children. Thursday, hospital officials unveiled a new critical care transport ambulance..
It's fully-equipped as a mobile neo-natal intensive care unit to provide the best care for infants.
"We can do more procedures in the back of an ambulance than we can in a helicopter. We do have a helicopter, we use AeroMed, but most neonatal transports are done via a ground transport. We can get our equipment and our staff to the baby," says hospital official Annette Johnson.
The hospital will use the vehicle to transport babies from hospitals as far away as Sault Sainte Marie and Traverse City.
