The BOB announces expansion plans | News
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Get ready for the next generation of The BOB.
The Gilmore Collection is announcing changes to the downtown building that houses several restaurants and a comedy club.
The new project will result in a new outdoor festival marketplace and "biergarten" facing the Van Andel Arena, new dining venues and a concert and event area with the capacity of holding 2,000 people.
The BOB, which stands for Big Old Building, opened in 1997.
The first phase includes renovating and expanding the space that had been Gilly's, which is on the ground floor facing the Van Andel Arena. A new, unnamed concept will be in its place and will include craft beers. It is slated to open on July 1st. The second phase starts after ArtPrize 2013 and will be done by June 1st of 2014. The rest of The BOB will remain open during the renovations.
Owners of the Gilmore Collection say a smaller venue space was in demand in Grand Rapids. The city still has to approve the project.
