GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.  June 1, 2011 – Get ready to head ‘em up and move ‘em out! The ninth annual American Cancer Society Cattle Baron’s Ball will be rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ into Grand Rapids on Friday, Aug. 12. New this year, the event will feature a pre-event party, the “Stampede,” taking place downtown on Thursday, Aug. 11.

Known for its festive atmosphere and delicious western fare, the Cattle Baron’s Ball unites diamonds and denim with black ties and boots to fight the ongoing battle against cancer in west Michigan.

“Cancer does not discriminate, and my family hasn’t been spared from its path,” said Rick Keyes, executive vice president of Meijer, Inc. and 2011 Cattle Baron’s Ball executive chair. “By supporting the American Cancer Society through events such as the Cattle Baron’s Ball, we are making a difference in the fight against cancer. Over the past eight years, funds raised through the Cattle Baron’s Ball have been critical in helping to support local programs and services offered here in West Michigan and beyond.”

“As the husband of a cancer survivor, I know how traumatic the disease can be to one’s family. I encourage everyone to get involved in the life-changing mission of the American Cancer Society where you can make a profound difference in the communities where you live and work,” said John Baysore, Dematic president and CEO. “Dematic is honored to return as the event co-presenting sponsor and I look forward to thanking all attendees of the Cattle Baron’s Ball for their ongoing support.”

The event kicks off on Aug. 11 with the return of Miami-based celebrity DJ Rekka for the Cattle Baron’s Ball pre-event Stampede in the Crush Lounge of The B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids.

The fun and festivities then move to the Steelcase Town Hall on Aug. 12 where the Cattle Baron’s Ball gets into full swing with area restaurants’ food and dessert stations, full country western bar and beverages, dancing and entertainment with the music of DJ Rekka, along with outstanding silent and live auctions. Ticket information for the Stampede and Cattle Baron’s Ball can be found at www.cbbgrandrapids.com.

It’s estimated that approximately 55,600 people will be diagnosed with cancer this year in Michigan. In addition to serving as the largest source of non-governmental funding for cancer research, the American Cancer Society supports the West Michigan community through a variety of programs and services, including transportation assistance, health insurance navigation, cancer screening information, and no-charge lodging at the Hope Lodge, Peter M. Wedge Guest House, for cancer patients traveling to Grand Rapids for treatment.

The 2011 Cattle Baron’s Ball is presented by Meijer and Dematic, and is supported by many of the area’s top corporate, medical and community organizations.
