Live concert, documentary of West Bank experience - Wealthy Theatre Tomorrow

On Saturday night 7:00pm at Wealthy Theatre, WYCE artists "The Joshua Davis Band" will debut Davis' new CD based largely on Davis' experience in the Palestinian West Bank in 2012.

The live concert will be preceded by a screening of the documentary "The People & The Olive."

2012 City of Grand Rapids Income Tax Forms


The 2012 City of Grand Rapids income tax forms are available for taxpayers to download for their use from the City’s website at www.grcity.us/taxforms.


Forms will be mailed to taxpayers who filed a 2011 self-prepared paper return and will be available for pickup at City Hall, nearby Post Office branches and libraries by January 31, 2013.


The Grand Rapids City Commission urges taxpayers to consider donating all or a portion of their 2012 overpayment (refund) to one or all of the following three city projects:
 

1. American Flags for Veterans’ Gravesites in Grand Rapids
2. Grand Rapids Children’s Fund

Get inspired to take sustainable action!  The WMEAC Film Series is a fun and accessible program designed to educate the West Michigan community on pressing environmental issues by offering screenings as an opportunity to engage audiences, inspiring them toward sustainable action. This is demonstrated throughout the series with expert speakers and panelists.  

We're bringing back our environmental film series this winter with the West Michigan premiere of Promised Land, the first full-length feature film focused on the controversial topic of fracking, at Celebration Cinema! North.  The series continues with a slate of four monthly documentaries to be screened at the Grand Rapids Public Museum on the first Tuesday of each month.

Brinks Schedules Community Conversation

GRAND RAPIDS – Democratic Representative-elect Winnie Brinks will hold a community conversation on Friday, Dec. 14, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Arnie's Bakery, 815 Leonard St. NW in Grand Rapids.  Brinks encourages residents to join her for a conversation on state and legislative issues that are important to Grand Rapids residents. Brinks will take office on Jan. 1, 2013.

How long would you wait? This was the question I posed to a few folks last week. I already knew the answer.

It wasn’t about the morning coffee a hipster barista creates as she slowly pours hot water in a thin stream over ground (and often fair trade) beans, and it wasn’t about traffic on one’s route home after work.

No. My question regarded how long would you wait to vote in an election. And unlike the examples above, which have a plethora of options, voting in its current form in our city and state is woefully in need of an overhaul.
