My Town: More houses on display during Spring Parade of Homes

 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—From toxin-free to maintenance free, dozens of West Michigan homes will be open to the public this Memorial Day Weekend as part of the Spring Parade of Homes.

Even more houses and condominiums will be on display this year- 78 homes from West Olive to Ada.  The homes will be on display through June 7.  They range in price from $100,000 to more than $1 million. This year’s listings include homes in Ada, Alpine Township, Allendale, Alto, Belmont, Byron Center, Caledonia, Cascade, Coopersville, East Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Grand Rapids, Grandville, Holland, Hudsonville, Jenison, Kentwood, Lowell, Plainfield, Rockford, Walker, West Olive and Wyoming.  For a complete list of homes, click here.

Rockford-based Sable Homes donates $500 to Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, Sable Homes marketing manager and new home consultant, Karin Kay, paid a visit to Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids to deliver a $500 donation to the cancer and grief support organization.

The donation came in response to Sable Homes’ Facebook campaign, which pledged to donate $1 for every new "like" Sable Homes received during the month of November. On Dec. 3, #GivingTuesday, Sable announced $500 would be donated to Gilda’s Club. Daryl Vogel, vice president of development at Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, accepted the check at the Gilda’s Club’s Grand Rapids clubhouse and took Kay on a tour of the facility.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—A segment of HGTV’s “House Hunters” filmed in Grand Rapids will make its national debut Thursday night.

Realtor Marilyn Hazard, who helped Holland native Diane Travis make the move to Grand Rapids, says the segment will air at 10 p.m.

Hazard’s realty company is based at 4949 Plainfield NE in Plainfield Township, but she says crews also shot scenes at Bistro Bella Vita in Grand Rapids and G.B. Russo & Son International Grocery in Kentwood.

Foreclosure rates drop in Wyoming-Grand Rapids

WYOMING, Mich.—Home foreclosure rates in Wyoming and Grand Rapids are dropping.

According to Corelogic, only 0.81 percent of homes in the Grand Rapids-Wyoming area were in foreclosure this past June.  That’s about half a percentage point lower than the same time last year.  At 2.49 percent, the national foreclosure rate in June was more than triple the rate in Grand Rapids Wyoming.

Only 3.2 percent of homeowners in Grand Rapids/Wyoming were 90 days or more behind on making their mortgage payment in June 2013.  That’s 1.13 percent lower than the same time last year, and more than 2 percent lower than the national average foreclosure rate.

Spring Parade of Homes sees record traffic

The Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids says the 2013 Spring Parade of Homes is seeing record traffic.

The organization says more than 50,000 people have toured homes so far.  The Spring Parade of Homes runs through June 8.  Remodeled homes will be open for touring June 7 and June 8 from 1 p.m.
