GRPS High School graduations are being held this coming weekend at Houseman Field. The alternate location in the event of rain is Sunshine Community Church.

GRPS Presents "The Wiz"

High School students that participate in the Elective Hubs at Ottawa Hills, City and Union High School are working together to put on a performance of The Wiz. Students in the Design Technology and Visual Arts at Union High School are working to build stage sets and props for the performance, while students in the Instrumental and Musical hub at City High School will provide Orchestra pit music for the performance and students in the Center of Theatre Production and Performing Arts at Ottawa Hills High School will act, sing and dance in the performance.

This is the first time students in the Elective Hubs will have the opportunity to work together to put on a citywide production!

GVSU welcomes $38,800 grant from DTE

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) has received a $38,800 incentive payment from DTE Energy for making energy efficiency improvements on its main campus in Allendale and at three satellite campuses in Holland, Muskegon and Grand Rapids.

In a ceremony today at the 2011 Energy Conference and Exhibition DTE Energy's John Lobbia, marketing program manager, presented a $38,800 check to Terry Pahl, GVSU facilities engineer. The incentive payment is an element of DTE Energy's Your Energy Savings initiative, a program designed to help DTE Energy customers improve the energy efficiency of their homes and businesses.

Pep rally planned for Catholic Central's “Coach T"

A “You are Awesome” pep rally will be held at Catholic Central High School on Friday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. to honor longtime teacher and pep rally leader, Dick “Coach T” Truskoski, who announced his retirement recently after 31 years at the school.

Truskoski is best known for his dramatics during Catholic Central pep rallies, firing up the student crowd before athletic events with rally cries of “We are CC!” and “You are awesome!” Over the years, Truskoski became known for staging spectacular entrances to the events including entering on horseback, riding a Harley and rappelling from the ceiling.

West Michigan Council Camp Fire USA

The West Michigan Council Camp Fire USA has After-School and Summer programs in ten Grand Rapids Public Schools and also the Camelot Woods Apartment Community Building. The programs are being attended Monday thru Friday by over 1,500 youth during the 2010/2011 program year.

The 33 week After-School program has an academic component where boys and girls practice reading and math, they also can get help with their homework. Then the kids have activities, such as dance, art, poetry, music, drama club, service-learning and field trips.
