East Fulton businesses prepare for 'Shop Hop'

NEWS RELEASE

Grand Rapids, MI November 29, 2011 – Caring for neighbors who live around the corner as well as around the world this Christmas season, the Salvation Army will be supporting the East Fulton Business District and their annual “Shop Hop” event. A full evening of “Shop Hop” festivities is planned, including specials and treats from the district’s businesses as well as an opportunity to meet and greet area neighbors and friends. The Salvation Army Brass Band will stroll the East Fulton District, filling the evening air with sounds of Christmas carols. The East Fulton Business District stretches along East Fulton - from Fuller at the east to the Fulton Street Cemetery at the west.

HollyJolly, a new retail focused holiday event, to make its debut on December 2

The downtown based HollyJolly, a new traditional retail focused holiday event, will make its Grand Rapids debut on December 2, 2011 and is presented by Independent Bank. (Independent Bank presents HollyJolly Grand Rapids.)

The 2-day event will kick off outside the cafe by the Christmas tree of the Grand Rapids Art Museum as a Downtown Development Authority/Downtown Alliance's retail focused event.

Day One of the HollyJolly event begins on Friday, December 2 just after 5PM with a community musical program and lighting of the tree outside the Grand Rapids Art Museum running until approximately 5:40 p.m.

Performing at the GRAM's traditional tree lighting ceremony will be an exhibition skate, the Renaissance Church of God in Christ's choir and many surprise guests including a special appearance by Santa Claus who will bring a magical ending to our program.

ArtPrize reopens The Hub Store for holiday shopping

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Nov. 14, 2011 – The ArtPrize organization will re-open The HUB Store at 41 Sheldon Blvd., for the next six weeks to celebrate the holiday shopping season. The store opens at Noon on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011. Most of the store’s iconic merchandise has been marked down 40 percent.

“People in West Michigan really understand the importance of shopping locally and supporting organizations that enrich our community,” said Catherine Creamer, executive director of ArtPrize. “This is the first time ArtPrize has opened its store outside of the event, so it is an experiment, but we are optimistic the results will be great. Every purchase will help support art in our community.”

According to the 3/50 Project, a small-business advocacy group, for every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, $68 returns to the community.
